She became an English and Drama teacher and Head of Sixth Form in a variety of secondary schools, including St. Paul’s Girls’ School and Oxted County School.
Jill chose teaching as a career primarily because of her life-long love of literature and greatly valued the privilege of introducing students to the works of writers past and present.
Poetry was probably her favourite genre to teach, while her love of drama made the teaching and producing of plays very rewarding. For a time, she was a member of a local amateur dramatics group in North London.
Jill has always found great joy in singing. She’s been a member of various choirs and continues singing to this day.
She retired from teaching in 2009 and lives with her husband, son, daughter-in-law and three grandchildren in southeast London. There she is a member of two book clubs and relishes the free time now available for walking in local parks and woods, as well as writing.
